Northwestern Mutual Raises $14,000 to Help Fight Childhood Cancer
Inaugural golf tournament honors local cancer survivor, benefits Alex’s Lemonade Stand
ST. CLOUD – August 25, 2014 – Northwestern Mutual – The Columns Resource Group scored a victory in the fight against pediatric cancer this week. The Columns Resource Group’s St. Cloud office held their inaugural golf tournament at the Wapicada Golf Course on August 11th and raised more than $14,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). ALSF is a national pediatric cancer charity that’s leading the search for a cure for childhood cancer.
“We’re humbled by our community’s support for this inaugural tournament,” said Josh Longnecker, Managing Director of Northwestern Mutual – The Columns Resource Group’s St. Cloud office. “Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has made an impact on countless children’s lives, and we’re proud to help this organization in its search for a cure for pediatric cancer.”
This inaugural tournament also honored a special guest, 15-year-old cancer survivor Jarrett Lee. Jarrett was diagnosed with Nodular Schlerosing Hodgkin’s Lymphoma as a teenager, but right before the tournament, he learned he was cancer-free.
“I had a blast meeting everyone and playing golf in support of this cause,” said Lee. “I was so happy to have the chance to raise funds in support of cancer research.”
“It was heartwarming to see the community rally around this cause and participate in this tournament,” said Sheri Lee, Jarrett’s mother. “Knowing what we went through with Jarrett’s fight with cancer, we don’t want other kids and families to have to experience that as well.”
About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $80 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 450 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
